Guitar Chords Tips

To become a chord expert you need to understand how many categories or chord classification types there are in terms of elemental emotional colors.

This essence of chords and subsequent recognition of Chord Types is called Tonality, Color or Quality and each chord has a fixed Unique Numerical Formula derived from the Major Scale of the Root of the Chord.

Culturally western music divides chords into 3 main categories namely, Major - Minor - Dominant. For a full list of chord formulae go to

At the Music of the Spheres cosmic guitar course you will learn that all chords are derived from different modes or scales. You can harmonise a mode to create dual, tertial, quartal, quintal, sextal and septal harmony. Each one of these harmonisation can range from 2 to 7 part harmony.

It is a great musical assett to be able to harmonise any melody with suitable diatonic and/or chromatic harmony using the most harmonious chord essences that compliment the song or composition that the melody lies in.

In jazz this is called chord-melody and is usually learnt using 4-part chords or quadrads arranged in soprano, alto, tenor and bass voicings.

Chord embellishments are dependant on the source scale of the chord you wish to embellish. The Hendrixisation of a chord progression has its roots in jazz harmony.

Heavy metal rhythms are more atonal and can be constructed rhythmically using mathematical divisions of a beat and then speeded up to warp factor and then pumped through various fuzz, distortion effects modules, amps or pedals.

Chords used in funk are blues and jazz based hence the term jazz-funk = jazz chords played funky!

A guitar teacher like John can broaden your chord knowlegde, chord application and understanding to a limitless level. This allows you to tap what your emotions and minds ear is really feeling and hearing. Thus you can produce all the range and nuances of human emotion.
