There's a special jamhouse in my town, a kind of street musicians institute where left handers can learn to play guitar too. They have special courses for left handers as they need slightly different techniques for learning than right handers, so it's cool that there is a special place where left handers can learn to play guitar. I am a left hander myself so I attend these guitar courses. There are many possibilities of choice for which kind of guitar lesson you can learn – electric, acoustic, classical, audio, 12-string, dobro, slide, bass or lead guitar lessons and you can choose various music styles to learn to play guitar too – jazz, rock, country, folk, blues, funk, rap, reggae, fusion or any contemporary music for that matter.
I chose country music and I was one of the first left handers to use fingerpicking guitar styles in this groove house where left handers learn to play guitar. Country music is my favourite, it has a special tradition in my family as my dad was a real cowboy. He converted me to the love of country music at an early age, it's in my blood. My mum was the opposite, she hated country music, but tolerated recordings of it in our home. She liked more modern music. Shame dad had to sell his original guitar, but he was forced to sell it whilst moving to another town just before I was born.
I feel he always missed the sound of his guitar so now he's very happy that he has a son studying in a happening guitar workshop environment where left handers learn to play guitar as he still likes to mess with guitar sounds on my guitar even if it's up side down. It reminds him of his youth, he had a country band, pedal steel guitar and all, wearing typical cowboy clothes and of course the hat. I took his photo to my music school where it's hanging in my country guitar class right next to Wailing Jennings and Johnny Cash. This is where left handers learn to play guitar. I wonder if they make left handed pedal steel guitars for left handers too? Not many musicians or guitarists know this but around 1976 Mizarolli played with Wailon Jennings in Ketchikan, Alaska - strange combination if you think of a country artist like him with one of todays leading innovative Rock Guitarists!
